Technical Requirements - Data Security
One of the most important assets within your computer system is the data and the protection of this data is a high priority for any organisation. The protection is usually achieved using some means of backup method and there are many options available.
In its simplest form, the backup may take the form of a physical backup tape. Procedures are established that allow backups to be recorded (success or failure) and also allow tapes to be reused. Procedures should exist for the regular testing of backups, at the time of a system failure you need to be in control and not be faced with the surprise that all of your last 6 months of backups have failed!
Operating system commands provide for basic backup systems. These commands do not provide the level of sophistication provided by third-party backup specialist software offerings.
