Technical Requirements - Networks
The Jane HR Systems are independent of the physical network infrastructure. Typical deployment scenarios include structured wiring through the provision of CAT5 and CAT5e for desktop connectivity and there is a growing move to fibre to handle the ever increasing load on network backbone services.
The TCP/IP protocol is the supported protocol.
For thick-client deployment, the network bandwidth at the desktop is recommended at a minimum of 10Mbits/s switched, and server network bandwidth is recommended at a minimum of 100Mbits/s switched. Network switches are recommended for performance and security although these are not mandatory requirements.
Where an organisation is spread over geographically locations, connectivity from the 'remote' sites into the 'main' site (location of the main computer server) is typically via low speed WAN connections. The speed of the WAN connection will determine the type of client deployment – and experience shows that the usual method for remote site deployment is using web or thin-client technologies.
One of the benefits of using thin-client deployment for remote sites is the deterministic nature of the technology. The bandwidth requirements are not based on user demand and therefore the deployment solution can be quantified more accurately – an important characteristic when dealing with such scarce resources as bandwidth on WANs.
